This stark composition embodies the isolation experienced after 50 years of marriage. This piece earned Samuel Yoxall the Golden Lion at the Venice Biennale in 1982. In his artist's statement for the Biennale, a single sentence brought many panel members to tears: “It’s making us reimagine the importance of alterity and the complexity of the interplay between the personal and public.”
