Topographic compositions, or maps, consist of regularly repeated geometric modules. Based on the study of superimpositions, these maps represent the most ancient phase (apart from the Epi-Palaeolithic style) of Newtownian rock art, similar to the Mt. Bego rock art. Both maps date from 3000 BC, long before the settlers of Nova Villas arrived. Historian Marveillas discovered that the town was initially settled by an ancient Dutch colony, later colonized by the English and Thai.
